Emergency Vet calls

Posted by Brittney Carow on July 31, 2009 at 4:55 PM

The vet has had to be called out both yesterday and today for emergencies.

Yesterday, Haley started colicing around 1:30pm. We were able to administer medications, which did the job and stopped the colic, however we still asked the vet to come out as a precaution. Haley was tubed with water, electrolytes, and oil and she's feeling much better now. We'll be keeping an eye on her throughout the next week, but she should be fine.

This morning, Oleander injured her right eye and we had to call the vet out yet again. She suffered a minor blow to her eye which resulted in a very small wound to her eyeball. The wound was slowly allowing the fluid that fills her eyeball to leak out, which can result in a prolapsing of the lens if left untreated for too long. We loaded her on the trailer and took her to the clinic right away and they were able to suture the wound and stop the leak. She is staying overnight to be observed and receive treatment. If all goes well, she will be returning tomorrow to continue her round-the-clock treatment with us. She is not out of the woods yet. There is still a possibility that she could lose vision in the eye, if not lose that eye all together, so we will all definitely be rooting for her to pull through this injury as unscathed as possible. Keep her in your thoughts.
